QUALITY MANAGEMENT IMPERATIVES FOR IMPROVING THE SERVICE DELIVERY OF ACADEMIC STAFF OF COLLEGES OF EDUCATION IN ANAMBRA STATE

Abstract


Over the years, focus has been on the contributions of quality management process in
improving staff performance in organisations. This study investigated the quality
management imperatives for improving academic staff service delivery in Colleges of
Education. Descriptive survey research design was adopted. Two research questions and one
hypothesis guided that study. The population of the study consisted of 910 academic staff of
two Colleges of Education in Anambra State. A sample of 470 academic staff was drawn
using simple random sampling technique (balloting). The instrument for data collection was
a structured questionnaire which was validated by two experts in one in Measurement and
Evaluation and another in Department of Educational Administration. The instrument was
trial tested and data collected was analyzed using Cronbach Alpha statistical tool which
yielded 0.81. Mean and standard deviation were used in analyzing the research questions
while t-test was adopted for the hypothesis. The analysis of data revealed that identified
quality management imperatives are necessary in improving academic staff service delivery
in Colleges of Education. Recommendations such as improved funding, provision of
resources, innovative information technology and training of management team on quality
management imperatives were made.
